
Clare Hallifax
Author, editor, publisher

​Clare Hallifax has worked as a writer, editor and
publisher for over thirty years.
She has a degree in journalism, and upon graduating
was lucky enough to work for a short time in the
Canberra Parliamentary Press Gallery, before undertaking
postgraduate studies in Literature and Art at both the
Australian National University and the University of Sydney.
Clare first worked in book publishing as a contract editor, and soon after joined a publishing company where she specialising in books about politics, history, and political history, alongside other non-fiction genres including law, human rights, business and leadership . However, she was never too far away from fiction as she continued to moonlight as a freelance editor on novels for all ages and in all genres, and also as ghostwriter for both fiction )and non-fiction) titles.

From 2010, she shifted into fiction full-time, as both a publisher and and editor of children's and young adult fiction, ranging from challenging novels set in the horrors of wartime to picture books for the very, very young and the young at heart, working with some of the most well-known writers and illustrators in Australia and beyond.
Clare is the author of Never Forget (2020), A House Divided (2025) and a contributing author in If It’s Not True, It Should Be: Writing Creative Non Fiction for Children and Adults (Paul Ashton, ed) (2024), with some forthcoming titles to be announced.
Clare is now responsible for literary content acquisition at Audible Australia.
